Diaz and Melendez defend their StrikeForce Belts in First Round TKO's![]() April 9, 2011 - San Diego, CA. In spectacular fashion both members of the famed Cesar Gracie camp defended their respective belts with first round TKO's. Gilbert "El Nino" Melendez made short work of his rematch with Tatsuya Kawajiri of Japan. From the opening bell Melendez was relentless in chasing Kawajiri with a barrage of deadly, accurate strikes. The first signs of where this fight was headed came when Melendez landed a crushing right hand that rocked "The Crusher" Kawajiri in the opening seconds. Despite the valiant effort attempted by Kawajiri, Melendez's flurries and accuracy were simply too much. Kawajiri desperately attempted to save himself with several takedowns but could not fend off Melendez eventually succumbing to a vicious barrage of elbows forcing Cecil Peoples to stop the assault increasing Melendez's win streak now to 5.
